What Is Blood Pressure?

 

Blood Pressure is defined as the pressure exerted by the heart in pumping blood within the arteries.

 

How is the Blood Pressure monitored?

 

 

The blood pressure is expressed as a ratio (Example – 120/80) The first number is Systolic (SIS-TAH-LIK) pressure, or the pressure when the heart pushes blood out of the arteries. The machine also measures your heart rate on this occasion as you can see it reads at 84bpm which is fine.

 The second number is Diastolic (DY-UH-STAH-LIK) pressure, or the pressure when the heart rests. The bottom number ie 100 measures the amout of oxygen that is in your body this is done by placing a small device on your finger, 100% being perfect
